A Labrador retriever saved his owner’s life by taking a bite from a rattlesnake that was poised to attack the human.
Alex Loredo, 18, was at his family’s home in San Diego, California, and walked outside to retrieve laundry after hearing the dryer buzz. Loredo heard rattling under the table that was ‘really loud’ and saw a rattlesnake ready to attack.
That was when Marley, his seven-year-old dog, came to the rescue.
‘Before I could even turn, Marley had run out the door, pushed me out of the way, and gotten in between the snake and me,’ Loredo told NBC San Diego. ‘My heart just dropped. My first thought was, “Oh no, I’m going to lose my best friend.”‘
The rattlesnake bit Marley twice, ‘one on his tongue and the other his neck’. The snake left after striking and Loredo took his dog to the hospital.
